Do you like old-time neighborhoods? Do you like dancing in the street? Halloween? How about the irrepressible Karen Irwin? If the answer to one or all of these questions is YES, then get yourself over to the 800 block of Highland Street, the northeast corner, where Highland and St. Clair converge, for the 24th Annual Cottage Home Block Party.

The Halloween-themed party goes from 5-10 p.m. on Oct. 13. Festivities begin with an American flag dedication led by the Tech High School ROTC Color Guard at the new neighborhood gateway sign at St. Clair and the railroad track. Entertainment will ensue, MCed by Karen Irwin. Featured players will include the Arsenal Tech Technicians, the Arsenal Tech Barbershop Quartet, Ashre, The Altar Boys, Sarah Grain and Kurt Garner. The Tides will play dance music from 8-10 p.m. and Global Peace Initiatives will sponsor a “Great Pumpkin” contest — participants of all ages are encouraged to bring a carved or painted pumpkin to display. Lockerbie Pub will serve pulled pork, coleslaw and beans. There is no admission fee, but a suggested donation of $5 will help pay for expenses.
