Blake and Roddick win one
by RCA Tennis Jul 19, 2006

Andy Roddick didn’t sweep the finals, but he didn’t do too bad considering he had two matches to get a win.

Roddick didn’t have enough to beat the No. 1 singles seed, James Blake. But he and Robby Reynolds made winning seem much easier in the doubles finals following Roddick’s first match in the singles finals.

Blake beat his good friend, Roddick, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5). This is the second time out of seven that Blake has defeated Roddick. The win earned him his sixth career title and 200 points for the U.S. Open Series. Blake also took home $74,250.

Even though the crowd took to its feet for Blake’s award ceremony, it was obvious that it was mostly impartial to the players. Roddick earned just as must fanfare as Blake throughout the match. Blake supports Roddick too.

“He’s No. 1 seed in my book,” Blake told the crowd.

He also said he is happy to have the “old Andy” back.

The “old Andy” and Reynolds defeated Paul Goldstein and Jim Thomas 6-4, 6-4.
