Becoming Jane
Two and a half stars (PG)
Anne Hathaway, James McAvoy
A Jane Austen-style flick about Jane Austen. Fans of British costume romances where genteel upper-class twits get their knickers in an uproar over social improprieties may enjoy themselves, but I found the film routine, tiresome and unconvincing. Hathaway is fine, though the script channels Austen through a Sex and the City mindset. 120 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes a commentary track by the filmmakers, deleted scenes, a feature on discovering the real Jane Austen plus pop-up facts and footnotes.
