Bad Dates
by Lisa Gauthier Mar 28, 2007

Three stars

Indiana Repertory Theatre; directed by James Still.

Who hasn’t had to endure a bad date? In this respect, the show is universal. Lauren Lovett as divorced, single-mom Haley has decided to get back into the dating scene. It’s a one-woman show, so Lovett is center stage the entire time — often in her underwear. The audience is privy to Haley’s bedroom, where Lovett chats us up like old friends while she tries on outfit after outfit. And shoes. Oh, the piles and piles of shoes! Lovett is on the frenetic side, like she’s juiced up on too much caffeine, and it made me feel she was a participant in some kind of theater endurance test. But she keeps an amiable rapport with the audience as well as her stage persona going. The second half of the show takes a strange — and unnecessary — twist into her work life, but no matter. It’s fluffy fun for a girls’ night out. Through April 22; 317-635-5252.
