Dance

Four stories in dance from around the world will be told by Project IN Motion in their third annual Sun Stories performance. Sun Stories is a wintertime celebration of the sun through dance. The performance uses the shared experience of art to celebrate diversity and our many cross-cultural connections. The performance will feature well over 100 dancers of all ages and backgrounds from the mid-north Indiana area.

This year’s four stories are a Malaysian folktale, an Israeli folktale, a modern story about Cuba and a story about the science of the sun.

Performances are Jan. 14, 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 15, 2 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 6701 N. Hoover Road. Sunday’s performance is the Israeli story only. A family-friendly dance workshop combining easy folk dance as well as other dance anyone can do will follow this performance. The folk dances from the story are taught. Both traditional and modern folk dances will be taught by Rhea McDonald, and Hilary McDaniel-Douglas will add some modern dance movement to show how the Sun Stories combine modern and ethnic dance to make the stories expand beyond the traditional movement.

Tickets are $10; $8 students and seniors; $5 children ages 6-12. Call 317-374-1787 for reservations or get tickets at the door.
