A Winter Solstice Celebration will be held Dec. 21, 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis, 615 W. 43rd St.

The Winter Solstice is a recognition of the longest night of the year and the returning of the light. The non-denominational ritual will feature readings, moments of silence and songs that will take participants on a journey from the quiet of darkness to a joyous celebration of returning light. The participatory nature of the event is perfect for families with children of all ages (activities will be available for toddlers). When the celebration concludes, you can enjoy an indoor feast (bring a dish to share), an outdoor ceremonial bonfire or a candlelit walk on UUI’s permanent outdoor labyrinth.

Plus, the Indianapolis Museum of Art will have a Solstice Celebration Dec. 30, 6-7 p.m. in the greenhouse parking lot. The event will feature dueling ice sculptors, live reindeer and hot cocoa.
