Time mix-up nixes vote
Hoosiers to spring ahead by one hour every spring and fall back by an hour every fall failed to materialize on time due to the lack of a quorum. The problem? Legislators didn’t know what time it was! A mix-up over the correct time caused a vote on daylight-saving time to come a-cropper last Thursday at the Statehouse. A vote on the measure to call on Roughly one-third of the legislators showed up one hour early for the vote, which was scheduled for 11:15 Eastern Standard Time. Another third of the legislators didn’t arrive on the scene until 12:15, making them an hour late. This meant that only one-third of the legislators who needed to vote on the bill were actually there when they were supposed to be. “This is like something out of Goldilocks and the Three Bears!” exclaimed Sen. Petunia Blimpton (R) of Santa Claus. Sen. Bull Travers (D) from Buddha respectfully disagreed. “There’s no porridge. And I want porridge,” he said. “I’m an elected official. Bring me porridge now!”
