Fund-raiser

To commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion, a benefit screening will be held of Mike Leigh’s new film, Vera Drake, about a wife and mother in 1950s London who works as a housemaid and, once or twice a week, quietly performs an abortion for “a girl in trouble.”
A screening of the new film Vera Drake will be held at Key Cinemas as a fund-raiser for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Indiana.

The fund-raiser is for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Indiana, the political arm of Planned Parenthood. At the screening, Betty Cockrum, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Advocates, will speak about the impact of Roe and the threats it now faces.

Tickets are $10, and the event will be held Jan. 22, 7:30 p.m. at Key Cinemas, 4044 S. Keystone Ave.

Donations are also being accepted to enable college students to see the film. If you are a college student over the age of 17, e-mail advocates@ppin.org to be put on the waiting list. To make donations, reserve tickets or for more information, see www.ppin.org or call 637-4362.
