Art on Death Row
by Editors Nov 3, 2004

Artwork by Death Row inmates will be on exhibit at the Wheeler Artist Community Nov. 5-13; 466-7128.

From 1977 through July 3, 2004, there have been 92 persons convicted of murder and sentenced to death in Indiana. Since eight of these have been convicted not just once, but twice following reversals on appeal, that means a total of 100 death sentences have been handed down here since 1977. There are now 25 convicted murderers on Indiana’s Death Row. This number does not include the convicts on the Federal Death Row in Terre Haute.

Inside-Outside is an exhibition of artwork created by these people. It is sponsored by the Indiana Information Center on the Abolition of Capital Punishment (IICACP) and will take place at the Wheeler Artist Community building, 1035 Sanders St., from Nov. 5-13. There will be an opening reception to which the public is invited on Nov. 5 from 6-9 p.m. For more information call 466-7128 or go to www.iicacp.org.
