Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo is one of the featured storytellers at the Hoosier Storytelling Festival Oct. 7-9.

Featured storytellers this year will include Tersi Bendiburg from Georgia, Donald Davis from North Carolina, Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo from California, David Massengill from New York and Onawumi Kean Moss from Massachusetts, sharing stories and songs from Cuban-American, Asian-American, African-American, Appalachian and folk music cultures. This festival is packed full of diversity.

Thursday, Oct. 7, 7:30 p.m. is “Neighboring: A Visit with Donald Davis at the Historical Society.”

Friday, Oct. 8 will be “Shiver, Shake and Sup.” Primary-aged children can make ghostly crafts in the Storytelling Activities Tent. Scary Stories for Families will begin at 7 p.m. High school and college students can participate in the first-ever Story Slam, an open mike competition. Plus, there will be contra dancing for all ages, and the evening will conclude with Scarier Stories from 8:30-10 p.m. Chili and hotdogs will be available from 6-7 p.m., as well as snacks throughout the evening.

Saturday, Oct. 9, two workshops will be offered in the morning: “Writing as a Second Language” and “Learn a Folktale Today.” The festival will offer “Unplug and Listen to Stories” from 12-5 p.m. on various stages at Military Park. That evening, the festival will conclude inside the Historical Society, with “A Story Cabaret: Stories for Adults” from 8-11 p.m.
