Music and Dance

On Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Hilbert Circle Theatre, Dance Kaleidoscope joins the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra to bring Debussey’s Danse sacree et danse profane and Milhaud’s La Creation du monde to their feet. David Hochoy’s choreography combines DK’s principal artists in concert with the ISO, guest harpist Emmanuel Ceysson, harmonica soloist Michael Runyan and alto saxophonist Otis Murphy. Under the baton of ISO music director Mario Venzago, the program includes Schreker’s Kammersinfonie, Stravinsky’s Ragtime and Milhaud’s Scaramouche.

The eclectic program is further enhanced with a post-concert gathering in the Wood Room. Maestro Venzago will demonstrate how and why composers utilize humor in music.

Debussey’s works for Harp and Orchestra have not been played by the ISO since 1941. Celebrating its 75th anniversary, ISO is bringing historical perspective and exciting collaborations to its 2004-’05 season. Call 639-4300 for tickets ($16-$60); www.IndianapolisSymphony.org.
