Musicians traveling with the tour include Ben Jelen, Dan Dyer, Shelly Fairchild, Future Leaders of the World, Sarah Hudson, St. Juste, Tyler Hilton, Wicked Wisdom and Wylde Bunch. The group from Los Angeles, Wylde Bunch, took the stage in the afternoon, performing songs from their debut album, Wylde Times at Washington High.

Just outside the reach of the musicians’ speakers, various corporate sponsor booths, political candidates and venues for political expression vied for students’ attention.

“I hate MTV,” said Georgia Waddups, an IUPUI student who will vote in her first election this coming November, “but I appreciate what they’re doing.” Waddups and her friend, Julie Earwood, both expressed support for MTV’s attempt to encourage people to learn about the candidates, their positions and ultimately cast their vote. Earwood and Whaddups signed the health care voters pledge, which reads, “We the people of the United States pledge to Rock the Vote by only supporting candidates for public office who have quality, affordable and efficient health care plans.”

Farther back from the stage, tables sponsored by Kernan-Davis and Daniels-Skillman distributed information and offered students the opportunity to register.

Mark Lee, IUPUI student, and Sarah Kellner, Butler student, stood behind the Kernan-Davis table waiting for students to approach. “It doesn’t bother me who sponsors an event like this as long as people are learning about the candidates,” Kellner said. “It’s important to teach people about the candidates.”

Next to the Kernan-Davis space, the Mitch Daniels RV dominated the background behind the Daniels-Skillman table. Andrew Todd stood beside the vehicle, looking for a place to add his name among the thousands of names already written across the walls, doors and windows. Todd planned to vote in this election before coming to Rock the Vote, but decided to attend after a friend told him about the event. In addition to showing his support for Daniels, Todd expressed interest in the corporate sponsors present. “It doesn’t bother me if they are here,” Todd said. “Especially if they have good deals.”
