Unity Festival

The African Unity Festival and Cultural Tourism will feature a diverse mix of cultural, social, health, educational, business and humanitarian programs July 30-31 from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and Aug. 1 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Center for Agricultural Science and Heritage, 1201 E. 38th St.
 
Music and dancing will be provided by Juju Merrymakers Macossa, Lucky Diop and Kassumai, People of the World Group, Starpoint Campers, Jireh Sports, Rockin Ravers Reggae Band, Drum Circle, Poetry Splash and the African Twins-Sisters.
 
Workshops on HIV/AIDS/STDs prevention and on “Africa, Our Connection” are scheduled, and the Social Security Administration will anchor a community meeting on “Social Security and Medicare Updates.” A documentary on “Remembering My Yesteryears” will be presented, and there will be a “Tastes of African Foods” and an awards ceremony. Vendors booths will also be on site.
 
The high point of the festival is the African and African-American dialogue in “Dispelling the Myths.”
