One of the rising festivals in the state has a full afternoon and evening of local live blues. The Danville Blues Festival will take place July 17 at the amphitheater in Ellis Park in Danville.

The day will begin musically with Need Deep In The Woods (3 p.m.), followed by Max Allen (4:20), Karen & The Beast (5:40), No Regrets (7) and the Clayton Miller Band (8:20). Gates open at 2 p.m. For more information, call the Danville Chamber of Commerce at 745-0670.

Upcoming shows

The Slippery Noodle (372 S. Meridian St.) will be hosting Doug McDonald & The Blue Mirror Band (July 15), can't-miss Chicago guitar staple John Primer (July 16-17), acoustic Benito DiBartoli & Eric (July 18), acoustic Gene Deer (July 19), John Lee Hooker Jr. (July 20) and the weekly blues jam hosted by Bluesion (July 20). Don't miss two Texas greats: Gary Primich (July 26) and Long John Hunter (July 29).\

For additional Gene Deer, he'll be at Kazablanka (5801 Rockville Road) on July 15. That same night Benito will also be at Kelly's Pub Too (5341 W. 10th St.), followed by That Place In Greenwood (1265 N. Madison Ave., Greenwood) on July 16 and Buffalo Wild Wings (Pike Plaza) on July 17.

Parrotheads (5522 E. Fall Creek Pky. N. Drive) is now holding a blues jam every Thursday night. Fast John Scharbrough is your host.

Governor Davis will be holding blues court twice on July 17: an all-ages show at 2 p.m. at the Indianapolis Artsgarden in Circle Centre Mall and later that night at the Moon Dog Tavern (4825 E. 96th St.). He'll also be at K.G.'s Pub (5202 Thompson Road). Max Allen will be celebrating his birthday with his band at the Rathskeller (401 E. Michigan St.) on July 17.
