‘Hometown Terre Haute: Photographs from the Martin Studios’ at the Swope Art Museum is up through July 25; 812-238-1676.

For 70 years, the Martin family of photographers captured the frenetic city life of Terre Haute during the 20th century. Originally founded in 1906 to provide local builders with blueprinting services, Martin’s Photo Shop quickly expanded to offer commercial and portrait photography. In only a few short years the company’s founder, Frank J. Martin, and his sons Ken and Willard had established their reputation as the finest photographers in the region.

The exhibit Hometown Terre Haute: Photographs from the Martin Studios at the Swope Art Museum presents over 70 photographs depicting nearly a century of Terre Haute’s past. The exhibit is up through July 25. Additional related programming includes the Seventh Street Classic Car Show on Saturday, July 10 and a slide lecture by Tom Roznowski, local historian and host of WFIU’s radio program Hometown, on Saturday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m.
