‘Hijacking Catastrophe’
Other films have and will examine the orchestration of the Sept. 11 attacks, the intelligence failures on WMDs and life during wartime in Baghdad. Hijacking Catastrophe zeroes in on new U.S. policies swiftly put in place following the Sept. 11 attacks, while a manipulated media erroneously connected the dots between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. The film points out plans and policies already in place and on paper nearly 10 years before the Sept. 11 attacks, scrutinizing the roots of “The Wolfowitz Doctrine” — global domination through unilateral force. Hijacking Catastrophe examines this radical post-Cold War reconfiguration of defense policy and the manipulation of a vulnerable America through the propaganda of fear.
Narrated by Julian Bond and featuring a wide array of out-spoken experts and whistle-blowers, Hijacking Catastrophe shows that critical thinking and moving beyond our primal fears is sorely needed in the months before Election Day 2004.
Hijacking Catastrophe (produced, directed and written by Jeremy Earp and Sut Jhally) gets its Midwestern premiere at Bloomington’s Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Monday, June 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the Sunrise box office at the Buskirk-Chumley or at the door. Call 812-323-3020 for more info. The screening is hosted by Karen and Rob Stone, in association with Reel Democracy and The Ryder Film Series. Proceeds to benefit the Media Education Foundation.
