Rolling back. Greenwood citizens had long made it clear they didn’t want a Wal-Mart Supercenter sprawling into a congested residential area already crammed with two big-box stores. Monday night, the giant retailer with designs on dominating Indianapolis finally got the point and dropped plans to build there.
Saying no to dough. As development continues chewing up Indiana’s farms at an alarming pace, the state has blown off federal funds earmarked to keep crops on the land instead of strip malls and condos. It’s time for Indiana’s leaders to get out of the back pockets of developers and builders and start thinking hard about the future of this state.
Greener pastures? Duncan Pat Pritchett, superintendent of IPS, is a finalist for a superintendent’s job in South Carolina. If he gets the job, Pritchett would be in charge of a 10,000-student system. Pritchett has been associated with IPS in various capacities for 35 years and been the superintendent here for seven. We’ll know whether he stays or goes on June 18.
