It’s a perfect match: free music and the soothing canal at the Indiana History Center, Thursdays, 5:30-7:30 p.m., June 3-Aug. 19, and Fridays, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., June 4-July 16. Note: No July 1 program, but a special 4:30-9 p.m. Family Concert with participatory opportunities on July 4.
The lineup showcases the richness of Indiana talent opening with Tad Robinson’s unique blues and R&B June 3-4, and closing Aug. 19 with old and new blues by David Morgan and Allen Stratyner. Carrie Newcomer’s acoustic folk on June 10 is followed by Blueprintmusic’s progressive acoustic bluegrass, country and folk on July 8; Jennie DeVoe’s acoustic rock/pop on July 16; and Brigids Cross traditional and contemporary Celtic folk on July 29. June 17 hear the IUPUI Jazz Ensemble; June 24 catch Monsalve-Perez Latin Jazz Project and IUPUI Urban Drum Ensemble. Jason Curry brings progressive jazz on July 9; July 15 move to Brazilian jazz/bossa nova with Cathy Morris. Swing and jazz get you dancing to the Lee Jones Band on June 18 and Mid Coast Swing Orchestra Aug. 5. Vocalists are spotlighted June 11 with the Keep ’Em Guessin’ Barbershop Quartet; July 22 with Shannon Forsell and Brenda Williams; Aug. 12 with Mary Moss and Jack Gilfoy.
