Pollak takes star turn at Crackers

Comedy
Who dat? Oh, him: Kevin Pollak will perform at Crackers May 20-22; 255-4211.

Kevin Pollak is “that guy.” You know, the one who was in “that movie.” Pollak is one of the more successful character actors in Storyland, the primary side effects of which include living with a “who dat?” name to go with an “oh, him” face.

Pollak, who’s been tagged by Variety as one of the 15 hardest-working actors in Hollywood, is one of the few Hollywood B-siders to make the A-list. He took turns in The Usual Suspects, A Few Good Men and most recently The Whole Ten Yards. He’s starred in two HBO comedy specials and, this July, he’ll be recording a live CD and DVD in San Francisco.

His stand-up act is peppered with spot-on impressions of Christopher Walken, Robert De Niro, Alan Arkin, Jack Nicholson, Peter Falk and — obligatory for impressionists — William Shatner. Legend is that Pollak does Arkin so well that a message he left on the actor’s answering machine confused Arkin into believing he’d left himself a message.

Pollak will be performing at Crackers, 6821 N. College Ave., May 20-22. Also appearing are John Dacosse and Ryan McCormick. The show is rated R. Tickets are $14 or $18; call 255-4211 for show times, reservations or more information.

I can affirm that the exhibition offers much to savor, in addition to a gift shop the likes of which you’ve never tasted. It offers history and lore...
