Storytelling

If you see only one storytelling performance this year, see Patrick Ball, who will perform March 27, 8-10 p.m. at the Indiana Historical Society as part of the Storytelling Arts of Indiana series.

Storyteller and Celtic harpist Patrick Ball will perform as part of the Storytelling Arts of Indiana series March 27 from 8-10 p.m. at the Indiana History Center; 255-7628.

Ball’s authentic Irish stories and his magnificent Celtic harp are not to be missed. He will present “The Fine Beauty of the Island,” a solo musical theater piece. In it, he relates his search for the story of “The Vanishing,” an exodus from the Irish Blasket Islands during the 1950s. Written about this piece: “There may be one person on the stage, but in ‘The Fine Beauty of the Island’ … a whole culture appears before us. Through the voice of his Celtic harp, the lit of his penny whistle and the brogues of a pubful of characters, contemporary bard Patrick Ball casts a spell … By blending a personal inner journey with the sensual reality and harsh beauty of the Blasket Islands, he created, like the bardic wanderers of old, the story of a vanished world.
