Cirque Eloize
by Editors Mar 17, 2004

Special event

A circus without animals; a carnival with a narrative arc; a journey chronicled by acrobats. Cirque Eloize’s current production, Nomade, tells the story of a group of travelers who wander through a dreamscape, employing trapeze work, juggling, hand-balances and a contortionist who washes her face with sponge held firmly … in her foot. There might even be a clown or two along the way.

Cirque Eloize was formed in 1993 and since then has performed more than 1,500 times to over 2 million spectators worldwide. Is it Cirque de Soleil? Not really; it’s more like Cirque de Soleil — Unplugged. Nomade promises to be an intimate production, not a high tech spectacular. But do plan on having to hold your breath from time to time.

Nomade will be performed March 19-20, 8 p.m. at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University. Pre-performance music in the lobby will be provided by Stacia Demos of Middletown fame.

On Friday, Larry Attaway, director of the Jordan College Academy of Dance, will hold a talk at 7:15 p.m. in the Krannert Room of Clowes. Tickets are $37 and $27 for adults, $29 and $21 for students and seniors and $29 and $21 for groups of 20 or more. Tickets on sale at Clowes and Ticketmaster or charge by phone: 239-1000. For more information, go to www.ClowesHall.org.
