Indianapolis chefs to demonstrate their skills at Taste of Indiana
A new addition to this year’s Taste of Indiana at White River State Park is the Deano’s Vino Cooking Demo Stage, where some of the Indianapolis area’s top chefs will conduct cooking demonstrations. The Taste also features food from more than 20 restaurants around the state, live music from some of Indiana’s top performers and hands-on fun from park attractions. The 2003 Taste of Indiana will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Aug. 23 and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 24. This year’s event will take place on the park’s newly opened lawn and on Celebration Plaza, the grassy area east of the old Washington Street bridge and south of the NCAA complex. Admission is free, but there will be a charge for food and beverages.
The following chefs will be demonstrating their skills:
Aug. 23: Regina Mehallick, chef/owner, R Bistro; Steve Oakley, chef/owner, Oakley’s Bistro; Dwight Simmons, executive chef, Gregory’s; Tony Hanslits, chef/owner, Tavola di ToSa.
Aug. 24: Karl Benko, VP of operations, Peterson’s; Casey Uglow, chef/owner, The Pidge; Mark Boor, chef, Hot Tuna; Wendell Fowler, chef/owner, Fowler Catering.
Queen of Sheba Restaurant to close
Citing health concerns and the reluctance of her landlord to renew her lease, Abeba Tesfatsion has announced that she will be closing the Queen of Sheba restaurant at the end of August. The restaurant will be hosting a final celebration on Saturday, Aug. 16. For further information about this event, please call 638-8426.
It takes a village
Just a few weeks after announcing the appointment of their new executive chef, Mick David, Adam’s restaurant has decided to change direction. Now under new management, the restaurant, which formerly specialized in modern American cuisine, will now feature an Italian menu, and will go by the name Il Villaggio. Offering family recipes from new Executive Chef Emilio Cento, the son of Italian immigrants, Il Villaggio will be Zionsville’s one and only Italian restaurant. For hours and menu information, please call 733-3600.
