Americans rock the semifinals
by RCA Tennis Jul 19, 2006

Second seed Andy Roddick looked forward to playing Gilles Muller after a loss to him in the first round of the US Open last year. He defeated Muller 6-2, 6-3.

“He broke my heart last year,” Roddick told the crowd after his win.

Roddick went on to break more hearts in the semifinals of the doubles matches. He and fellow American, Robby Reynolds Paul Hanley and Kevin Ullyett 6-3, 6-4. The doubles quartfinals match of Justin Gimelstob and Vince Spadea versus Paul Goldstein and Jim Thomas was postponed due to rain. They will play at 11:00 a.m. today.

James Blake, however, was able to secure another win before the clouds rolled in. He beat Frenchman, Nicolas Mahut 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5).

Blake and Roddick will be joined by fellow American, Robby Ginepri in the semifinals today. However, one American will fall out of the exclusive club when Roddick and Ginepri battle at 1:00 p.m. today. Blake follows the match at 3:30 p.m. when he will take on Xavier Mallise. Mallise defeated Fernando Gonzalez yesterday with a score of 7-6(4), 6-4.
