Alvin and the Chipmunks

Two stars (PG)

My son nagged me into seeing this mega-hit comedy built around computer-animated versions of Ross Bagdasarian’s 50-year-old mischievous “singing chipmunks,” Alvin, Simon and Theodore. I saw a flat retread of an old one-note gag starring a bland Jason Lee and a terribly annoying David Cross. My son saw a “great movie with cool songs and lots of funny mischief.” So there you go. 90 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes both widescreen and fullscreen versions of the film, along with featurettes on the music and the history of the whole Chipmunk phenomena.
