Allotropy
by Editors May 6, 2008

One of the city’s bigger art parties, Allotropy: Art in Multiple Forms, happens over two nights, May 9-10. Never in the same place twice, this year’s Allotropy will happen at the T-Square Building at 1315 Shelby St. in Fountain Square.

But as Primary Colours, the artists’ collective that produces Allotropy, takes pains to tell us, this event isn’t “just a party.” It’s a large-scale juried art event that combines a variety of mediums with musical performances, including bossa nova-infused folk, dub and ambient electronica from musicians such as e. Brown, Sarah Grain, Kaiton, MOTIF-IDM, Creepin Charlie & the Boneyard Orchestra and more.

Jurors this year were Mark Ruschman, Lori Miles and Brad Bernard. They chose work by Amory Abbott, Carrie Rebecca Armellino, Joe Bieschke, Susan Brewer, Margaret Gohn, Kyle A. Herrington, Riva Jewell-Vitale & Brad Wicklund, Jennifer Kaye Laughner, William G. Lopeman, Zachary Lopez, Jeff Martin, Carol L. Myers, Phil O’Malley, Mark Pack, Chad Prifogle, Shari Pettis, William Denton Ray, Josh Rush, Erin Swanson and Sarah Tolbert.

Allotropy starts both nights at 5 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m. Tickets are $10; $7 for students. For more information, go to www.primarycolours.org.
