Four stars
Theatre on the Square; Directed by Ron Spencer

From out of the mouths of babes comes this zany retelling of the life of L. Ron Hubbard, founder and head of the Church of Scientology. Friday night’s audience rolled in the aisles as children, who make up the cast of this production, waxed pseudo-scientifically on such abstract and high-faluting subjects as the analytical and reactive minds (terms coined by Hubbard). Making a guest appearance at Theatre on the Square throughout this production are fellow actors and Scientologists Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kirstie Alley, wonderfully played by Paige Cassidy, Zachary Earls and Levi Sebree. These celebrities help in explaining the rationale behind Scientology, as well as its popular appeal among the philosophically destitute masses. Always tongue-in-cheek and never taking itself too seriously, this production is a splendid parody of a man who is still considered by many to be a charlatan, and the outlandish system of beliefs he devised in order to make the Church of Scientology a multimillion dollar conglomerate. Through Aug. 16; 317-685-TOTS.
