In how they caricature reality, Leviton’s prints and etchings are reminiscent of Picasso’s most playful works. Leviton’s characteristic habit of laying few colors over her images sets a determinate tone and mood to each of her works. As an example, the difference in moods between “Takes Two to Tangle” and “Blue Two to Tangle” can be felt mainly in the tonal contrasts between the two etchings. Leviton perhaps best succeeds at using personification to imbue everyday objects and events in her work with human characteristics, further illustrating the adage handed down from Protagoras that humans are the measure (and model) of all things.
