'Dracula' re-envisioned
Indianapolis expatriates Matt Graber, producing artistic director of the Shawnee Theatre in Bloomfield, Ind., and Alan Shepard, currently doing his master’s work at the University of Hawaii, are bringing a new adaptation of Dracula to the Shawnee stage to close out the summer stock season. Shepard, a playwright and actor, wrote and will star in the show.
Graber says, “At its core, our production of Dracula is a love story. ... But this is a frightening love story, and we aren’t shying away from that. We’re making up big batches of stage blood.”
Performances are July 31 - Aug.13, Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $14, $7 for children. The Shawnee Theatre is located a mile south of downtown Bloomfield at 4 Furnace Road. For tickets, call the Shawnee box office at 812-384-3559. For more information and driving directions, go to www.shawneetheatre.org.
