91.9 WITT Fundraiser Concert
91.9 WITT Fundraiser Concert
Saturday, May 31, 2 p.m., $10, all-ages and 21+ stages
WITT 91.9 FM community radio takes one step closer to broadcasting with its May 31 fundraiser. The event will run from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m at Locals Only with an all-ages outdoor stage as well as a 21 and over indoor stage. The fundraiser will feature performances from Thunders, Gentleman Caller, Jenn Cristy, Hey Hey Melodica, Eisenhower Field Day, Fifth Element, Amo Joy, The Language, Kory Quinn & The Comrades, Shadyside Allstars, Crabtree’s Trunk and Up for Grabs. Entrance is $10 and all proceeds will help bring WITT to the Indianapolis airwaves.
The musical diversity at the event is just a taste of what WITT will offer listeners when it begins broadcasting: an assortment of genres ranging from local artists to classic rock to children’s shows.
“I spend a lot of time in Indy, so I guess I’m just looking forward to seeing what the hell the programming is like,” Gentleman Caller’s Kenny Childers says. “I hope it’s good and weird; public access stations usually are.”
Local artists like performer Jenn Cristy are looking forward to an opportunity to hear their music on the radio. “The music industry is starting to swing back to real musicians playing real music and I believe that WITT will be able to help in that,” Jenn explains. “It will spread the word that Indianapolis is packed with amazing bands and singer/songwriters.”
WITT organizers hope to be on the air by the end of the year with help from this fundraiser. The event will help raise awareness of WITT while building a foundation of local support for the community radio station.
“We are excited for the event to be playing with other bands, meeting new people and starting a relationship with WITT,” Chris Moore, drummer of Shadyside Allstars, says. “This is how you build a community of support. The founders of this station have a passion to bring WITT to the community, so we want to rally around them.”
