Being a goody-goody
Isn’t how you get to the White House
Just a few brief points to counter your personal reality as it is presented (Hammer, “If Al Gore Were President,” May 17-24).
I doubt very much that Mr. Gore would have reacted much differently to the circumstances that have brought us to high gas prices and corporate influence on the government (example: Lippo Group). For the government to dictate the price of gas, it would have to be a much different form of government than we have now and Al Gore would have had to be in a much better position to abuse his post than the Patriot Act currently allows.
I’m not saying that he wouldn’t be willing to abuse the power of his position; he would. After all, it was during the Clinton Administration that Gore pushed for the very “Clipper Chip” technology that makes NSA wire tapping abuse possible (search “Hubbell files”). Also, it was the same administration that allowed the Chinese access to this technology so that they can better keep track of their own people. In addition, the Chinese now have the ability (and have shared the technology with others) to strike at the U.S. mainland thanks to favor given to multinational corporations in exchange for campaign contributions to the Clinton/Gore effort. So what were you saying about how different it would be if Twiddle-Dumb was in office instead of Twiddle-Dee?
Then there’s your assertion that Bush’s 30 percent approval rate constitutes a 70 percent disapproval rate without any consideration of those sitting on the fence. So — WRONG AGAIN.
Is it that you are un-aware of such inconvenient facts; because it couldn’t be possible that you are just plain lying? According to you, “There is a price to be paid for lying, cheating and covering up the truth.” If that were actually true, then Mr. Clinton would have been removed from office like he deserved and you would have to seek more meaningful employment.
The fact of the matter is that regardless of Democrat or Republican, you don’t get to the White House by being a goody-goody.
