Music Review

One solid performance on a key night is a successful formula for most bands. The Virgin Millionaires got that Friday during their CD release party at the Music Mill. With solid opening performances by two well-known Indy acts, Extra Blue Kind and Transmatic, the Virgin Millionaires stormed through eight, tight songs and blew back the hair of the 200-plus fans on hand. Justifying this band’s burgeoning hype was a stinging swing through their power pop-laden self-titled disc.
Former Transmatic guitarist Zach Baldauf fronts the five-piece band, parts of which hail from Indy and Orlando, Fla. Baldauf and company stomped the guts out of the Music Mill’s stage, urging fans on with pure energy that fueled robust, buzzing guitars and Baldauf’s own mature voice, which is startlingly large for the diminutive lead singer. All in all, fans were left breathless following the Virgin Millionaire’s encore number, “Bombs Away,” which gets airplay on three major Indianapolis radio stations, including WRZX.
