Here’s to Hoppe
I have wanted to write this e-mail for the better part of a year, however, today I finally got my words together to do it proper.
Often times yours [Hoppe’s] and Steve Hammer’s articles set side-by-side in each week’s edition of NUVO. I read both because both are entertaining and, more often than not, educational. While both of your columns are liberal leaning, I see you as “The Left” and Hammer as “The Ignorant Left.”
After reading “Dissent & Dissolution” (May 10-17) and Hammer’s juvenile rant on seat belt laws and big brother (“Traffic Ticket Raises Questions,” May 10-17), I wanted to tell you that TRUE concern for reporting is reflected in your articles. It is easy to determine that you take the time to sculpt an intelligent and factual perspective on political current events while the NUVO columnist who lays his words down on the page beside you opts out for the quick and plaguey fix on current events that comes off as if it were written in 23 minutes under the influence of Dark Eyes Vodka & 7UP.
Sure, Hammer gets the laughs if you compare his scribbles with your words, but does he maintain any credibility? Often times the majority of people will respond to humor before adhering to cold, undeniable facts — but eventually the laughing wears off and what is left is an issue that still needs to be closed with a logical and reasonable solution.
Now let us all raise our paper cups of Vodka/7UPs and give a toast. Here’s to intelligence! Here’s to you, Mr. Hoppe!
