Thank you for your keen observations on the state of the public library (Hoppe, “Unionizing the Public Library,” April 12-19). Those who are involved in the effort to organize library workers share your concerns and have a sincere and heartfelt desire to protect an institution that has a unique role in the city. The free exchange of ideas is important to the health of any organization. A union will enable employees to express opinions without fear and work as equal partners to solve the problems facing the library. The staff is committed to securing the future for an institution that plays a vital role in the life in Indianapolis.
