The Butler International Theatre Exchange, an annual summer program that brings theater artists from around the world to Butler University, will be back for its fifth year July 3-15. This year the program will feature Australian artists Mary Moore and Richard Back.
Moore is an internationally recognized installation artist and scenic designer; Back is a video artist. Together they will lead a public workshop that will focus on techniques employed to create a dynamic performance installation for live performers using new technologies. The way performance space is configured will be explored through the positioning of surfaces that catch projected images. The culmination of the project will be a sharing of the work where audiences will experience how live performers are integrated into the world of projected images through a variety of sources and manipulation. The performances will take place at Butler University July 14-15.
Participation in BITE is open to students, professional artists, arts educators and members of the public interested in exploring new ideas in world theater. There is no audition, but participants should have a background in theater, dance, music, installation art or design. Participants will work with a variety of media including live video feed, film and video manipulated through digital imaging and computer animation.
