Indy Jazz Fest 2006 fires up

Last Thursday at the Jazz Kitchen, the Indy Jazz Fest, presented by the American Pianists Association and sponsored by Kroger, released its much-anticipated lineup of artists appearing at the eighth annual event. The festival will again stomp, swing and groove over the Father’s Day weekend of June 16-18 in Military Park. Emphasis this year will be on honoring New Orleans on Sunday, June 18, and raising funds to aid musicians of the Big Easy.

Festival tickets are now available at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 317-239-5151. Tickets are $25 per day in advance and $35 per day at the door. Children ages 14 and under will be admitted free when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.
Jazz Appreciation Month
• The Indiana History Center will host the Butler University Jazz Ensemble in a concert of Brazilian music Thursday, April 9 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at wwwsadco.org; $10 advance, $15 at the door.
• The University of Indianapolis Jazz Combo plays a free concert Tuesday, April 11 in the Christel DeHaan Fine Art Center at 7 p.m.
