Embrace change

Laura McPhee’s article is a pure exercise in melodrama, laced with shortsighted criticism of well-intentioned public servants and severely lacking in relevance (Cover, “Highway to Hell,” March 15-22). Furthermore, the fact that a poll would indicate that 60 percent of Hoosiers are against Governor Daniels’ “Major Moves” proposal is a sad indictment against Indiana. It is unfortunate, but it certainly appears that the vast majority of the citizenry in this state is stuck in a “status quo” mindset. Daniels’ low approval ratings would seem to reflect that notion. It shouldn’t require too much common sense to understand that a $3.85 billion windfall, in conjunction with the probable expansion of I-69, is a win-win proposition that will strengthen our economy and allow for other improvements as well.

McPhee states at the end of her piece that “the worst level of hell is reserved for the worst offenders,” hinting that Gov. Daniels has betrayed the trust of the public by pushing for the I-69 expansion. Whether you agree with him or not, Daniels has done nothing to warrant that kind of criticism. Hoosiers need to step up and embrace change, our future depends on it.
