Key Cinemas owner Ron Keedy has a treat for music devotees starting Friday and running through next Wednesday: a double-feature (never fear, both films are shorter than most) about two giants in the world of electronic music. And there’s an opening night bonus!

Moog, the first film, is a 70-minute visit with Robert Moog, inventor of the modern synthesizer, and his fans, which run from Bernie Worrell to Rick Wakeman. “I can feel what’s going on inside of a piece of electronic equipment,” says the charming theorist, sound engineer and sorta mystic. I believe him.

Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey is an 84-minute look at the amazing life of Leon Theremin, inventor of the Theremin, the instrument often used to add an otherworldly element to a piece of music (you’ve heard it in “Good Vibrations” by the Beach Boys and the sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still). In 1922, the Russian-born Theremin demonstrated the electromagnetic instrument for Lenin. Big mistake. In 1938 he was kidnapped from his New York studio by the KGB. His story is a must-see.

THE BONUS: This Friday only, Key Cinemas celebrates the opening night of the double-feature by welcoming local reps for Moog Music who will have an original MiniMoog and other electronic instruments, including a Theremin, for playing and demonstrations in the lobby before the evening shows.
