SLR rocks Patio with new disc

Show Review

Split Lip Rayfield
The Patio
Wednesday, Sept 29

Split Lip Rayfield breezed into the Patio Wednesday night to promote their day-old baby, Should Have Seen It Coming (Bloodshot Records). Before the show, I spoke with Jeff, the group’s bassist, who filled me in on some details about the band.

Plugging along for eight years now, Should Have Seen It Coming marks the band’s fourth album of what Jeff described as a “hybrid” of different kinds of music, which can best be described as bluegrass. However, the band plays with a punk sensibility — fun, hard and fast.

The bassist accurately noted that audiences who come out to see the band can’t be placed under one label, as all ages, including both rock and bluegrass fans, enjoy the music. Split Lip Rayfield could impress any rock or bluegrass fan, no matter how staunch, as the group presents some mighty fine a-pickin’ and a-grinnin’ while maintaining the energy of a solid rock album and show.
