Big fun at One-Liners

Mr. Rude, aka Bill Elmer, will regale the crowd at One-Liners Aug. 18-22; 889-5233.

Billy Elmer is large and in charge. A straight-talking, loud-mouthed everyman, Elmer is a 300-pound “attack comic” who peppers the audience with ad-libbed jabs that regularly reduce hecklers to rubble. With a pseudonym like Mr. Rude, who could doubt him? Be quiet or come prepared to rumble.

Slicing and dicing with the common sense of Occam’s Razor, Elmer’s observations can be crude but are often just plain goofy. Everything — parade floats, vinyl records, the audience — is fair game.

Elmer has appeared on Showtime’s Comedy Club All-Stars, MTV’s Half Hour Comedy Hour, Comedy Central’s Stand-up Stand-up, A&E’s Evening at the Improv and David Letterman. He’s also appeared in a number of feature films, including The Wedding Singer, Inspector Gadget, Fear of a Black Hat and The Amazing Ambersons. Elmer can also be heard regularly on the Bob and Tom radio show.

Elmer is performing at One-Liners, 50 Airport Parkway E., Greenwood, Aug. 18-22. The show is rated R for profanity and blue material. Tickets are $11. Shows start at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, 8 and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. For reservations or more information, call 889-5233.
