Wednesday
Battle of the Bands at the Patio. An up-and-coming group of bands performs: Signs of Decay, Oblique, Hurricane Down, Win With Willard, Matt Mays, Elicit. See tomorrow’s stars today!
Thursday
Summer Slam ’04 at the House Cafe + Music. The excellent Christian hip-hop act DaFilled has put together an all-star bill for the show. Besides DaFilled, Fiti Futuristic, Darius, Von Dutch and Mr. Del, formerly of Three-6 Mafia. Visit www.dafilled.tk for more info.
Friday
The Academy, Chevy Downs and Courtney Kaiser at the Patio. Three off-center, intelligent, poppy bands take center stage in Broad Ripple. Watch out for The Academy, who play 1980s influenced pop-soul music in a way that’s unique to these parts.
Friday Night at the Melody Inn. Things get started at 7:30 p.m. with Hellbilly Happy Hour, featuring the Punkin Holler Boys. After that, it’s time for rockabilly, with top acts The Crypto-Kats, The Trip Daddys and Black Cat Rebellions.
Peachead, EBK and Overhang at Radio Radio. Peachead, one of the most original groups to evolve from Indianapolis, is, according to their bio, “a four or five piece band that performs a stunning, eclectic form of music merging modern experimental punk with beautifully arranged melodies and jazz overtones.”
Saturday
Castle Oldchair, Senatobia at Radio Radio. Castle Oldchair plays intricate, hummable, deceptively simple folk-rock songs with often abstract lyrics. Definitely an act to
investigate.
X-Ray Roger Jimmy and Frickin' A at the Patio. Come to see X-Ray debut their new, hilarious video documentary, filmed at a recent road gig. Stay for their energetic music.
