Chinaman rocks Funny Bone
Rock and roll hasn’t been this funny since Spinal Tap. Mark “The Chinaman” Britten hits the laughs hard and true with impersonations of Dave Matthews, Pearl Jam, Matchbox 20, Kid Rock, Aerosmith, Metallica. What Counting Crows fan hasn’t confused singer Adam Duritz with a bleating goat? It’s not just music, though. Ever wondered what Arnold Schwarzenegger would sound like playing Jesus Christ? Me either, but trust me, it’s funny.

Somehow, in the midst of pulling off ringer impersonations of rock’s role call, Britten, a Texas-native with a Chinese mother and a Caucasian father, manages the real feat: He manages not to sound like anyone else. He might bite the bands, but the comedy is all his. While so many comics are mixing the same recipe, there is nothing cookie cutter about Britten’s set, just some real zest and enthusiasm for the subject matter.
Mark Britten has appeared on A&E’s Evening at the Improv and provided the voices for seven characters on Cartoon Network’s Dragon Ball Z. He is appearing at the Funny Bone, 3625 E. 96th St., April 7-10. For tickets, reservations or more information, call 844-0300.
