Animal Control adoptions stable in 2011

Indianapolis Animal Care and Control (IACC) has tallied its adoption and rescue numbers for 2011, and in spite of the economy, the number of animals saved stayed virtually stable - nothing to sneeze at considering the fact that the city doesn't give the shelter much money, and the staff is tasked with taking all animals brought in. A $60,000 donation this week will help a bit, as will the Rescue Rally, a contest ending this month which offers prizes to rescue organizations for pulling the most animals from IACC.

In 2011, IACC adopted out 2,058 cats, dogs and other animals, and another 4,936 went to rescues, including breed-specific groups that help certain types of animals find homes. 2010 saw 2,157 adoptions and 5,024 animals go to rescues, according to Adam Garrett, community outreach coordinator for IACC and co-star in the commercial below the list of cute animals needing homes:
