The Starting Five, 6/9/2014

Our out-going treasurer Richard Mourdock (thanks, term limits!) decided to liken our current situation to Nazi Germany, then tried to claim he wasn't speaking about the Dems and the President. This caused many right-thinking Hoosiers to offer certain opinions on social media such as "This dude's an ass."

Of course, the same GOP conventioneers that gave Mourdock a STANDING OVATION put this nugget on their platform: hetero marriage is the "foundation of society." Please enjoy your ever-quickening ride into obscurity.

A note: Mr. Mourdock made his statements the week after D-Day, and the GOP's homophobic platform comes in the midst of Pride. Speaking of Pride, here's our cover story, ICYMI.

And good luck with the whole one-man, one-woman definition, anyway: "Sex and gender might be thought of as a continuum with a substantial gray area in the middle."

And finally, The Fault in Our Stars raked in four times its budget at the box office in its opening weekend. Way to go, John Green. Here's Ed Johnson-Ott's review.
