The Starting Five, 3/14/2014

Posted on Fri, Mar 14, 2014 at 9:07 AM

Happy Pi Day! 3.14, get it? Yeah. You did.

More mass transit? Yes, please.

THIS is super interesting:

U.S. Senator Dan Coats, R-Ind., on Friday joined Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., in sending a letter to Joseph S. Blatter, the president of Fédération Internationale de Football Association, commonly known as FIFA, the world soccer governing body, asking for help in pressuring Russia to respect Ukraine sovereignty.

Another missive from our Scott Shoger, who's covering the SXSW screenings in Austin for us.

You may have caught this on the evening news: an Indy bakery refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple. Those interested in more on this specific subject might want to give this a read. It's an interview with Professor Katherine Franke, director of the Center for Gender and Sexuality Law at Columbia Law School

BONUS LINK 'CAUSE IT'S FRIDAY AND WE LOVE THIS: This blog is absolutely beautiful and touching. It's about a family that used SNAP assistance.
