The Indianapolis Parks Foundation will enter 2012 not only celebrating its 20th anniversary but also the $1.3 million in grant support it's received to continue Indy Parks & Recreation programs and improvements.

"IPF has been fortunate to receive a number of corporate and foundation grants that will be used to improve our city parks and support programs that help enhance the quality of life in Marion County," IPF Executive Director Cindy Porteous said.

The foundation's major initiatives for 2009-2012 were to connect neighborhoods through greenway construction, refurbishing and replacing outdoor play structures, and program support with emphasis on family and school programs.

Financial support from community partners helps to purchase land, develop and maintain parks, and support programming that benefit the residents of the Indianapolis community to fulfill those initiatives.

This year, 60 tennis courts were renovated, 13 comfort stations installed, and new water spray grounds and playgrounds were built with grant funding. These are improvements that IPF plans to continue in 2012 with grant funds from the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation, Inc., Lilly Endowment, Inc., and United Water.

The Indy Parks Foundation, much like Eagle Creek Park Foundation, relies on financial support to provide Indianapolis with quality, enjoyable spaces.
