Things are beginning to look up for Fountain Square. In September, at a press-attended merchants meeting, contractors working on the Cultural Trail construction promised to pick up the progress of the project. So far, so good.

The weeds that had grown within the construction were eliminated, and crews have been working almost every day since - including some evenings and weekends. Every effort has apparently been made to ensure that all merchants have street access even as the work continues.

Pavers have now been installed along much of the trail, and according to Jennifer Von Deylen, owner of Indy Swank, "The latest we have heard is that the hard-scape work will be done by Thanksgiving."

Also according to Von Deylen, Fountain Square has even added some businesses to the neighborhood, including Mama Irma's Peruvian restaurant and a store called Spark, both on Virginia Avenue. Also, Vital Skates and La Margarita are set to open soon. With continued work, the Cultural Trail through Fountain Square should be all set for holiday traffic.

"I pictured myself as a karaoke hustler, sneaking in and shocking everyone when they saw this 300-pound bearded giant hit the stage and nail every note of Hozier's "Take Me To Church." I saw karaoke titles in my future, because no one would hear me coming."
