Winter storm causing cancellations

Posted By on Mon, Jan 31, 2011 at 6:21 PM

We've already received word that Indianapolis Public Schools, Butler University, IUPUI and UIndy have all canceled classes and closed campus tomorrow. Check your university accounts for more information. The Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Indianapolis Art Center will also be closed due to weather.

Additionally, we just received this press release related to IndyGo detours and delays tomorrow. Because it contains so much specific information, the release is included here in its entirety.

IndyGo riders should anticipate delays and/or detours as a result of tomorrow’s funeral procession for IMPD Officer David Moore as well as the winter storm watch that is in effect Monday evening through Wednesday evening.

Moore’s funeral service at 10 a.m. is slated to bring in thousands of people to Conseco Fieldhouse. IndyGo riders should expect delays downtown due to increased car and pedestrian traffic as well as street closures. Buses in the downtown loop—which is Maryland Street to Delaware Street to Capitol Avenue to Ohio Street—will not be in service at Capitol Avenue and Market Street, Maryland Street and Pennsylvania Street, and Delaware Street and Washington Street during the funeral service. Passengers should board and alight on Ohio Street.

The funeral procession will affect all bus routes in the downtown area as well as those on the east and west sides of town. IndyGo will do its best to keep its buses on their regular routes, but riders are encouraged to be patient as the city honors its fallen officer.

Weather reports are calling for snow accumulation and icy conditions in the metro Indianapolis area over the next 48 hours. As a result, IndyGo will detour 10 of its routes that are more difficult to navigate during inclement weather. Riders should anticipate longer wait times on all 30 fixed routes. IndyGo would also like to remind business owners and residents to shovel their sidewalks to make it easier for transit riders to safely access their bus stops.

The following routes will have detours:

Route 2 — East 34th Street
