I'm
pretty upset that I'll never find my name in a bin of customized
keychains. I saw five Rhondas, but not a single Duncan. I guess a lot of
Rhondas stop at Sad Sam's in Kentucky.

We
stopped for lunch at a McDonalds in Shepherdsville, KY and decided to
take in the culture of the town and eat in. It wasn't long before I
noticed a man posted up in the Play Zone on his laptop. Naturally I
was intrigued and looked closer. Dude was surfing Myspace in the
McDonalds Play Zone. He didn't appear to have a kid he was waiting
on. He was just there. I'm not sure if it was creepy or if it was
just weird.

It's
been a long day on the road,
but fifteen hours after leaving
Bloomington, we've made it to a pretty sweet house north of Dallas
belonging to Marcus' uncle. He is a very cool dude.

We
planned to leave Bloomington at 8 a.m. We made it out of town at 11
a.m. I saw a pole with a nametag reading "Jesus" in Brown County.
That was interesting.

In
Arkansas, there was a sign that said "Danger: Prepare to meet God."
Also, Arkansas smells like a fart almost all the way through the
state. (Editor's note: Sorry, Arkansas!)

Colin
raised an interesting point once we got to Texas: we've been in 5
states and 1 pair of underwear all day. It doesn't really mean
anything one way or the other, but it's interesting to think about.

We
started getting space madness once we got to the oddly named
Texarkana. The conversation began to get more and more outlandish
pretty quickly.

I
remember we were talking about math and how we never gave a damn
about it in school and somehow we got to talking about if John Wayne
taught chemistry and Oliver channeled his inner John Wayne with the
quip, "Yeah, just shoot it. It'll blow up."

I
guess there's not much more to note about the first leg of our trip
other than the fact that we made it successfully. Today, we are
heading down to Austin to grab our wristbands and see some music.
We've got our Hoosier-dar turned on, so hopefully we can find Tyler
or Crafty or someone. After we get our feet wet today, we're
heading to San Antonio to sleep for the night before we get back to
Austin for the rest of the week.

This
is a pretty all right SXSW Road Trip Playlist I came up with in the
car:

Youth Lagoon - "Montana"

Tallest Man on Earth - "Kids on the Run"

Women - "China Steps"

Accordions - "Junkyard"

Bonesetters - "Savages"

Wilco - "A Shot in the Arm"

Daniel Johnston - "I Save Cigarette Butts"

Hammer Screwdriver - "Alleluia"

Guided by Voices - "Motor Away"

Congrats to young art rockers Hotfox for rallying enough support to get all the way to Texas — South by Southwest, that is.
