Nora goes to the Austin City Limits Festival.
Another amazingly beautiful day in Austin.
I found it easy to get to the Austin City Limits Festival again with the city bus/ACLF shuttle combo again. Well done Austin!
I made it to the park in time to hear bits of Gaslight Anthem, Black Lips and Beat Antique. I also took advantage of the WiFi in the media tent to post my ACLF eve blog.

I was trying to catch up with some Indianapolis folks that were at the festival. With almost 100,000 people in the park and 87.000 of us with iPhones it was almost impossible to send a text. If they did go through they were delayed by fifteen minutes or so.
I went to see Broken Bells - and was feeling lucky to make it through the crowd. Check out the reflection in James Mercer's sunglasses. Broken Bells had a huge crowd - they are deservedly hot stuff right now - they are full of pop goodness.
This was also the closest I had come to connecting with the Hoosier crowd - they were in the stands on the stage. So close, yet so far!
I caught up with them after the Broken Bells set and they gave me the coolest thing ever - a VIP wristband. It was like the gates of Heaven opened. I swore that I heard angels sing.
Soon I was on a golf cart whizzing to the VIP area. The dude next to me on the cart was wearing an artist band - there is a whole hierarchy of wristband: general admission, media, photo, crew, VIP and artist. I asked him what time he was playing and what stage they were on and realized that I was sitting next to a member of Gogol Bordello. Wheee!

The band is good old fashioned dance-y world music gypsy punk fun.

Their lyrics lend themselves to the crowd chanting them and singalong fun.

Gogol Bordello is invading the Vogue on Tuesday, November 2, it will be worth going out on a school night and the ticket price!

I had to tear myself away from Gorgol Bordello - those big security dudes hustling us out of the photo pit helped me move along. I took advantage of the VIP pass and went backstage with the thought of shooting the band from above. I marched up the steps over the side and looked over the edge...and saw stars. My fear of heights kicked in big time. I scurried back down to the nice safe lawn.

My last stop for the day was to hear Matt and Kim.

They are delightful! Drums, piano and harmonies make for stripped down pop rock, leaning towards new wavy fun. I skipped my way out of the park to their fun sound.
