I first heard about Emily Wells in early 2009 from one of my most trusted musical resources, SPIN Magazine. This article made me stop and do a double-take: classical violin meets hip hop? I had to know more.

As it turns out, the multi-instrumentalist (violin, vocals, organs, synths, sounds, guitars, ukuleles, glockenspiels, xylophones, metallophones) was born in Texas, but spent her youth right here in Indianapolis. She tells SPIN of her introduction to samples and beats as a teenager in The Circle City, “Everybody was into hip-hop. All everybody did was go around, smoke blunts, and bump OutKast."

Wells returned to her stomping grounds last August to perform at The Vollrath with The Mudkids for the release of their latest album MKEP.

Saturday night, Wells stops in Indy for another homecoming, this time headlining at Fountain Square’s newest live music venue, White Rabbit Cabaret. Local freak folk wonder-band Slothpop and Minneapolis-based pop duo Fort Wilson Riot will open the evening beginning at 9.
